Main Installations and Equipment Available

 

The Postgraduate Program in Natural and Synthetic Bioactive Products has three classrooms and an auditorium, all with an air-conditioned environment. The auditorium has a capacity of one hundred (100) persons, where the defenses of dissertations and theses are held, as well as seminars and lectures. Also, when necessary, the Program can rely on the CCS auditorium.

 

ANALYTICAL CENTRE

 

Built with CT-INFRA 2005 resources, the Analytical Centre of UFPB was opened in December of 2006, in an area of 330 m2, which has allowed for qualitative leap in the program. In early 2007 the Analytical Centre was put into operation, being responsible for the analysis of materials and chemicals that contribute to the development of program research and is also supporting the training of specialised human resources. In addition to providing services to other universities and agencies in the region, the Analytic Centre offers its services to companies with an academic link with the UFPB, thus enabling other establishments to have the latest technology for the analysis of their products. One of the mid-term proposals is that the Analytical Centre be self-maintained through the provision of services. The direction of the Analytical Centre is under the responsibility of Prof. Marcelo Sobral da Silva. The CA has the following equipment in operation, mostly acquired with CT-INFRA resources:

• Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer - Varian 500 MHz, coupled with the HPLC, which is the second equipment with this capacity to be installed in the country.
• Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer - Varian 200 MHz
• HPLC VARIAN
• Infrared apparatus - RAMAN for analysis in the region of 12000-400 cm -1
• UV-Visible devices - Perkin Elmer
• lyophiliser, semi-industrial
• spray dry apparatus
• Nitrogen Plant in order to provide all the liquid nitrogen to the two NMR machines, aiming at cost reduction. The plant provides the liquid nitrogen needed to the 200 and 500 MHz NMR devices and also other research groups of the UFPB, Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG) and State University of Campina Grande (UEPB).
• Mass Spectrometer LC / MS / MS from Waters
• High Pressure Liquid Chromatograph
• Polarimeter.

PHYTOCHEMISTRY LABORATORIES - 3 LABORATORIES (IPeFarM)

Fume chambers, 9 rotary evaporators, 3 analytical scales, all laboratories are served with a vacuum and chilled water generated externally, 3 greenhouses, 1 distiller, dozens of agitators / heaters, 3 freezers and three refrigerators, 2 HPLC devices, 1 device for melting point determination, 3 computers, 1 medium pressure chromatography apparatus and a chromatotron, 1 ultra violet camera, ultrasound devices, 3 scales.

ORGANIC SYNTHESIS LABORATORY (IPeFarM)

Fume Chambers, 2 rotary evaporators, 1 analytical scale, 1 freezer, 1 fridge, 1 vacuum pump and one high vacuum, 5 stirrers / heaters, 1 stove, cooling and drying system for organic solvents, 1 computer.

PROFESSOR THOMAS GEORGE VIVARIUM (IPeFarM)

 

For research activities involving animal testing, mentors and students of the PgPNSB program have the Vivarium of IPeFarM (former LTF), at the UFPB Campus I, called Prof. Thomas George Vivarium. The Vivarium, built with funds from MS / ANVISA of R$ 950,000.00, has an area of 650 m2, working within international standards and serves as a model for the entire Northeast.

The Vivarium of IPeFarM has a veterinarian as its technical manager and three bio technicians involved in the keeping and caring of mice, rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits. Its facilities are equipped with an air filtration system with room temperature control, culture and sterilisation greenhouses, refrigerated centrifuge, refrigerator, freezer and laminar flow and sanitary barrier for keeping SPF animals (Specific Pathogen Free). The hygienic-sanitary control of animals and plants is done periodically.

 

PHARMACEUTICAL AND MOLECULAR ANALYSIS LABORATORY (LAFAM) IPeFarM

High performance liquid chromatograph, apparatus for disintegration, UV / Visible spectrophotometer, friabilimeter, hardness tester, conductivity meter, potentiometer, refractometer, Electronic analytical scales, purifier system and water deioniser, laminar flow hood, pH meter, medium pressure chromatography preparation system, liquid chromatograph coupled to a mass spectrometer.

 

PROF. LAURO PIRES XAVIER HERBARIUM - JPB (SDR / CCEN)

 

It has a biological collection of about 30,000.00 samples of Paraiba flora, occupying an area of 65 m2, also housing a collection of fruits in an area of 30 m2, a microscopy environment with an area of 30 m2, a room for preparation of botanical material with an area of 30 m2.

 

TECHNICAL SUPPORT WORKSHOPS

• Glass production workshop with 60 m2 for manufacturing and repair of glassware for laboratories in general. It has a glass turning lathe, blow torches and a technician.
• Electronic workshop with 30 m2, specialised in repair and maintenance of high precision analytical equipment. It has an oscilloscope, power supplies, generators, multimeters and an electronics technician.
