About the Postgraduate Program in Religious Sciences (PPGCR)
_____________________________________________________________________
The history of the Postgraduate Program in Religious Sciences at the Federal University of Paraína goes back to the Religare group of Research and Studies in Religiosity, composed of researchers registered with the CNPQ since 1999. For ten years, between 1996 and 2006, the group produced, published and supervised numerous academic works as well as produced and disseminated significant research in the area of knowledge. In 2005, in response to the Permanent Commission for Religious Education of the Department of Education of the State of Paraíba and the demand for teacher training for the Religious Education discipline, the 1st Specialization Course in Religious Sciences was created, in the lato sensu modality. , approved by Resolution no. 40/2004 of CONSEPE, started in April 2005. From the lato sensu specialization, the Postgraduate Program emerged, now in the stricto sensu modality. Respecting the terms of Resolution nº 03/2006 of CONSEPE and recognized by the Scientific Technical Council of CAPES, in a meeting held on the 12th of July 2006, the first class of the Postgraduate Program in Religious Sciences began in March 2007 .
The Postgraduate Program in Religious Sciences at the Federal University of Paraíba precedes the creation of the Religious Sciences and Theology Area, code 44, at CAPES. Alongside other Brazilian programs, it led, with its teachers, the emergence of the Knowledge Area, valuing its autonomy compared to other areas, especially Philosophy -- the area from which the Sciences of Religions develops. After Modernity, the academic and scientific study of religions became an invaluable achievement for understanding the religious phenomenon and understanding what is different. The theoretical-methodological principles inaugurate, through a multidisciplinary approach, a reflection beyond the radical criticism of religion or the conviction of religious adherence. In this sense, the Federal University of Paraíba, with the Postgraduate Program in Religious Sciences, expands the horizon of the meaning and values of religions, thus aiming at ethical and fair virtues as implications of the academic process.
