The Graduate Program in Ecology and Environmental Monitoring (PPGEMA), in the Academic Master level, is linked to the Center of Applied Sciences and Education (CCAE0, Campus IV – Northern Coast, of the Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB). PPGEMA was created in 2010 to meet the specific demands of the state of Paraíba, particularly the need for applied studies to biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of water and terrestrial natural resources, focusing on the marine environment (coast and ocean) and the Atlantic Rainforest.

PPGEMA has two goals:

I – To train professors and/or researchers to carry out research and the higher education teaching, in the field of Ecology and Environmental Monitoring in its broader sense.

II – To provide the training of professionals who the scientific preparation is mainly linked to the regional issue and to the local needs.

III – To promote investigation, in the field of Ecology, in special interest fields for the region.
