The Strictu sensu Postgraduate Program in Geography at the Federal University of Paraíba, linked to the Center for Exact and Natural Sciences, began his academic activities of continuing education in the master's degree in 2003 and doctorate in 2012.
This Postgraduate Program is intended for the excellent training of Geography teachers, researchers and professionals, enabling them to master and deepening knowledge and theoretical-instrumental skills and develop methods and practices of geographic research in the Program's area of concentration.
The Program offers the academic community of graduates in Geography and related areas the Academic Master's and Doctorate courses, integrating teaching, research and extension activities, aiming at the training of qualified personnel who have mastery and deep knowledge in the concentration area involving discussions about territory, work and environment.
It consists of a concentration area, called Territory, Work and Environment, and three lines of research: City and Countryside: Space and Work (line A); Territory Management and Geoenvironmental Analysis (Line B); and Geographic Education (Line C).
The research lines constitute the main axis of the Postgraduate Program in Geography academic-scientific activities, grouping them according to areas, themes and/or methodological perspectives, the various research projects developed by teachers and students.
The results obtained throughout the existence of this Program confirm its objectives of production, dissemination of knowledge and training of qualified professionals. Futhermore, these three lines of research are strengthened, allowing greater integration with networks and research groups internal and external to the Program.
The Program's professors and students engage in stimulating dialogues with research groups and researchers from other universities and/or regional, national and international research institutes, Aiming to deep into topics of interest to society in different areas of geographic science.
Annually, the Program receives approximately 130 candidates (master's and doctorate) enrolled in its selection process, who come from Brazilian macro-regions, demonstrating the regional and national insertion of the Program.
